Outback Museum of Australia

Building an iconic tourist attraction in the heart of the Australian outback.

Murweh Shire Council and Melbourne based architect March Studio invited Spantech to collaborate to develop the roofing system for the landmark Outback Museum of Australia (OMOA).

To achieve the architect’s vision, Spantech invented the Spantech Longreach Tapered profile, a variation of the Longreach 800 profile that is mechanically tapered to achieve cover widths from 850mm to 400mm wide.

Spantech was also invited to tender on the overall project. The bid offered a Value Management solution as a key part of its tender submission that included innovative use of other Spantech products like Formwork 300 used to economically build several large, suspended slabs. Spantech’s bid included a staged construction approach dividing the project into affordable stages that allowed Council to secure Federal funding and complete a major portion of the design. Council advised other stand-out factors in the awarding of the contract included Spantech’s extensive experience delivering complex projects to Regional Councils, and a comprehensive safety, quality and environmental management system supported by OFSC Accreditation.

Spantech commenced work as Principal Contractor in September 2023 with handover of Stage I planned for November 2024.
