Waiouru Explosive Ordnance Depot, Stage 2

Increased explosive storage capacity to meet the needs of a modern defence force

In 2014 Spantech returned to the Waiouru Military Camp in the central North Island to build Stage 2 of the Waiouru Explosive Ordnance (EO) Depot.

Waiouru Military Camp is often referred to by soldiers as the home of the army as it houses the National Army Marae and is the base where all New Zealand Army soldiers complete their initial basic training.

Spantech delivered the award winning Stage 1 of the EO Depot in 2005.

Scope of works

Stage 2 comprised an additional two (2) Spantech 23m Earth Covered Buildings (ECB) taking the total Spantech ECB on the site to seven.

The buildings are designed to international standards. Categorised as 7-Bar Type 4 Igloos each Spantech ECB can be licensed to store up to 75,000 tonne (NEQ) of HD1.1.

This is the third project completed by Spantech at the base having previously delivered the Weapons Training Centre and Waiouru EO Depot Stage 1.
