A modern roofing solution for an aging Sydney Water reservoir

The Ingleburn Reservoir was built in 1974 as part of Hawkesbury-Nepean Water System.

The Reservoir is a large. With a diameter of 69.0m and a water depth of 13.1m, the reservoir can store approximately 45ML.

in 2019 after 45 years of service, the Ingleburn Reservoir required a major upgrade.

Spantech was engaged to replace the roof with the Spantech Pinkenba 370 profile in aluminium. Spantech’s aluminium solution was provided with a 50 year material warranty that will easily see the asset through the next phase of its life.

THE DESIGN

The design of the original roof was a traditional pie shape. Spantech worked with consulting engineers SASTTI to develop a cost-effective new layout that takes advantage of the long-span continuous sheets available with the Spantech Pinkenba 370 system.

The result was a lightweight solution with system with less columns. The roof was installed faster than a traditional pie shaped roof. There were significantly less flashings. Expansion and contraction of the long sheets is managed with one of several unique fastening systems that can accommodate expansion and contraction of up to 60mm.

The design proved to be very competitively priced at the construction phase and represents unbeatable value for money over the lifetime of the reservoir.
