RAAF Base Edinburgh ECB Facilities

Unique capabilities in the design, construction and ongoing sustainment of earth covered buildings

Spantech has successfully completed three major projects at RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia.

1991 Spantech contracted by Defence as Principal Contractor to design and construct:

  • 3 Spantech 13m ECB, with Dual Compartments and Double Leaf MHE Blast Doors

  • 1 Bomb Preparation Building (BPB) (effectively a drive-though Spantech 23m ECB)

1994 Spantech subcontracted to Hansen Yunken to design and construct:

  • 1 Spantech 23m ECB

2010 Contracted by Thales Australia, Spantech upgraded and maintained several:

  • 5 existing Spantech ECB and BPB, plus

  • non-Spantech ECB and EO Loading Areas.

MAINTAINING OPERATIONAL CAPABILITY

Early works by Spantech at RAAF Base Edinburgh focused on the delivery of new infrastructure in the form of earth covered buildings and blast resistant buildings to store and handle explosive ordnance.

These projects were all completed on time and on budget. All buildings were successfully licensed and remain active, operational facilities today.

20 YEAR Upgrade

Spantech’s most recent project at RAAF Edinburgh was to maintain and upgrade existing infrastructure within the operational EO Depot. After almost 20 years with minimal maintenance, even these robust buildings can benefit from an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) style update.

The works undertaken by Spantech will prolong the effective life of the buildings by twenty years or more. The project is excellent value for money, particularly when considering the importance of this facility to Defence and the nation.
