A large flood-proof shade structure

Livingstone Christian College asked Spantech to design a cost effective roof to cover two existing bitumen basketball courts.

The brief was complicated by the flood prone site and the design has to allow for and accommodate future floods.

The lightweight solution uses 36m long Spantech Longreach 800 profiles with 17.5m spans between three lines of structural support. Beams at the ends of the building are supported by a row of slender columns. The large centre beam is supported by three ‘A’ frame columns to anchor and brace the structure.

The original courts were topped with a flood resilient concrete slab. New lights, high level power points, perimeter fences, footpaths and turf complete the extensive upgrade of the Junior School’s courts.
