Charlton Christian College double basketball court cover
Simple round curved beams for an elegant design solution
Shac Architects brought fresh thinking to this relatively common educational facility - a double basketball court cover with an amenities and sports equipment store.
The innovative design centred around the Spantech Longreach 650 profile. The long-span capabilities of the system allowed Shac and the project engineers to dramatically reduced the total amount of structural steel in the design.
Shac accentuated the lightness of the structural design by painting the round beams and columns black. The sleek lines of the structure contracts and compliment the bold features of the Spantech Longreach 650 profile.
Project Overview
Over 2,500 square metres of roofing manufactured and erected in just two days
The Longreach 650 roof of the sports court is over 50m wide with the span between columns over 40m.
Each panel is 52.6m long and spans 10.6m spans between beams with a 5m cantilevered eave.
Including the Amenities Block, the project has over 3,000m2 of Spantech Longreach roofing.
Spantech worked with a local roofing contractor to manufacture and erect the main roof in just two days.
With installation originally scheduled to take over seven days, the project saved tens of thousands of dollars in crane-hire alone.
The curved roof falls to one end where a segmented Spantech Longreach gutter collects the rainwater.
